When you install WordPress to your hosting account, the anti-spam plugin, Akismet, is included. I always get the question of how to set up this plugin. Sometimes it may seem confusing.

In your admin panel you should see the red notice at the top of the page informing you to enter your API key to activate Akismet. To get that API key you need to actually sign up for a WordPress.com account.

Log into your WordPress.com account or sign up if you don’t already have one. Once you are logged in to your Global Dashboard, click under settings on “Personal Settings”. In this screen you will see your API key displayed at the top. Simply take that number and enter it into your Akismet settings and save the changes.
